Day 9 - A long way to Taitung

SA June 4: Taipei, Taitung
Being back to Taipei for the Travelling Party organized by NYC, I know went back to my previously next stop on my roundtrip: Green Island. Of course the travel from Taipei to Taitung was taking much longer and was less scenic than the originally planned route from Kaoshiung to Taitung, however there where some nice views of sandy beaches around Hualien. Good I had reserved a seat. That weekend it was obviously the Dragon Boat Festival in Taiwan, so more or less everybody had a day off on coming Monday – which meant that everybody was up on their feet travelling in Taiwan and the train tickets, hostels, everything was sold out very quickly. Finally arriving in Taitung, my organized Homestay was waiting at the train station with her Jeep already and persuaded me in renting a scooter to get around Taitung. At first I refused, since I wanted to go to Green Island the next day very early and therefore didn’t see why I should get one. However it turned out that her place was a bit further away (15 minutes by scooter from central Taitung) and so I decided to give it a go. Good I had my international licence on me! Driving the thing to her place and unloading the baggage it already started to get dark and I started to get hungry. Said 15 minutes later I found myself in the heart of the city in the central nightmarket. A lot less people than in Taipei and kind of comfortable I thought. As I am more the type of person who likes to sit while eating, I soon discovered a nice restaurant with seafood at the old Taitung train station. Calling the contact of dancers I got from the guys in Kaoshiung however didn’t work out, so that I decided to head back to sleep, it would be a getting up early day the next day...
