Through the “Youth Trekker’s Wanted” campaign, the National Youth Commission (NYC) has over the past three years awarded travel funds to nearly 50 youths from around the world to help them achieve their travel dreams in Taiwan. NYC is again welcoming international youth to Taiwan for the 4th “Youth Trekker’s Wanted Campaign”. Applications must be submitted by December 11th, 2011. We encourage all international youths aged 18~30 (between Jan 1st, 1981 ~ Dec 31, 1993) who love to travel and share their travel experiences to submit a Taiwan itinerary for consideration. Submitted itineraries must be 10 days or longer and center on a theme chosen by the applicant. Once completed, itineraries must be uploaded to the activity’s official website. We will award the best 20 entrants with US$2,000 ~ US$3,000, good toward making your Taiwan dream trip come true!
3rd “Youth Trekkers Wanted” campaign finalist Keir R. Schone from Canada is an experienced international backpacker who designed his Taiwan trek to test his physical limits. Immediately after arriving on the island, Keir headed for the capital of Taiwan water sports – Kenting. Keir quickly befriended two enthusiastic diving trainers who helped him suit up and took him out to their personal favorite diving spots. Keir was enamored with Kenting’s azure waters and gorgeous coral reefs. A lover of sand, sunshine and sea water, Keir was further amazed by the vibrant coral reefs and plethora of tropical fish living along Green Island.
Eager for more, Keir soon found himself in Taipei in a tussle that sent him sprawling to the ground. Not to worry, though - Keir had signed up for martial arts training at a city academy to learn some moves from an experienced master. Despite its small size, Keir had found a wealth of exciting natural diversity in Taiwan. Even in Taipei, a short half-hour ride is all it takes to reach the base of Sanxia’s Wuliao Jianshan where bamboo forests and rock climbing await on the challenging hike to the top. Pleasant hot springs even await on the return trip to Taipei. On his last day in Taipei, Keir arose before dawn to join other early risers in their daily shadow-boxing exercise routine – the perfect end to a Taiwan trek filled with Eastern flavors and healthy challenges.
Rich culture … Lovely scenery … Friendly people. Would you like a grand tour of Taiwan? Enjoy your Taiwan holiday in your own creative way!
